Emergency Update: South Sudan Refugee Situation in Uganda, September 5-6

The number of South Sudanese refugees fleeing to Uganda rose even higher over the past 2 days, September 5, 2016 and September 6, 2016. News from the latest UNHCR emergency report includes:

8,825 South Sudanese refugees have fled to Uganda during September 5, 2016 and September 6, 2016.
18,703 refugees arrived in Uganda during the past 7 days, compared to 12,400 during the previous 7-day period.
119,636 South Sudanese refugees have arrived in Uganda since July 1, 2016, according to field reports.
New arrivals reported fleeing from intimidation, looting, torture, killing, and youth being recruited by armed groups.
4,380 refugees were relocated from the Adjumani, Arua, and Moyo districts to the new Bidibidi Refugee Settlement in Yumbe district, bringing the total number of refugees in Bidibidi to 48,399.
85 suspected cases of cholera were treated in Adjumani and 52 suspected cases of cholera were treated in Yumbe.
The UNHCR and police have trained a 20-member Neighbor Watch Team in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement’s Block 1 on issues such as community alertness, community and police partnership in crime prevention, and basic knowledge in criminal laws and offences.
