The number of South Sudanese refugees fleeing to Uganda rose even higher over the past 2 days, September 5, 2016 and September 6, 2016. News from the latest UNHCR emergency report includes:

  • 8,825 South Sudanese refugees have fled to Uganda during September 5, 2016 and September 6, 2016.
  • 18,703 refugees arrived in Uganda during the past 7 days, compared to 12,400 during the previous 7-day period.
  • 119,636 South Sudanese refugees have arrived in Uganda since July 1, 2016, according to field reports.
  • New arrivals reported fleeing from intimidation, looting, torture, killing, and youth being recruited by armed groups.
  • 4,380 refugees were relocated from the Adjumani, Arua, and Moyo districts to the new Bidibidi Refugee Settlement in Yumbe district, bringing the total number of refugees in Bidibidi to 48,399.
  • 85 suspected cases of cholera were treated in Adjumani and 52 suspected cases of cholera were treated in Yumbe.
  • The UNHCR and police have trained a 20-member Neighbor Watch Team in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement’s Block 1 on issues such as community alertness, community and police partnership in crime prevention, and basic knowledge in criminal laws and offences.
