Report on the influx of South Sudanese Refugees to the RMF supported Kiryandongo Refugee Settlment in Uganda

UPDATE FOR THE SOUTH SUDAN EMERGENCY

HIGHLIGHTS
- A total of 154,840 South Sudanese refugees have been assisted in Uganda since the influx
began in mid-December 2013, including 96,463 in Adjumani, 14,691 in Arua, 35,806 in
Kiryandongo and 7,880 (as of 18 June) in Kampala. - The World Refugee Day was celebrated on 20 June around the country. This year, the national
event was in Adjumani. The theme of the year was “Refugees are regular people, get to know
and support them”. The event was attended by government officials including the 2nd Deputy
Prime Minister, the State Minister for Internal Affairs and the Office of the Prime Minister –
Commissioner for Refugee. The event was also attended by the UNHCR Country
Representative, a delegate from the Italian Embassy, various United Nations agencies and
partners based in the West Nile Refugee operation. The Government and UNHCR in particular
emphasised the continued provision of protection and assistance to refugees.
