Since November 2014, 17,645 refugees (as of 16 December 2015) have fled the insecurity in Burundi and sought safety in Uganda. New arrivals continue to enter the country on a daily basis and this is a trend that we expect to continue into 2016. The majority of refugees are hosted within settlements in government-gazetted land in South-West Uganda, while around 21% choose to live in Kampala. The emergency response is focused on rural settlement areas, where the most vulnerable refugees are living, while refugees in Kampala are able to access government services and targeted support is provided to refugees with specific needs.

An estimated 10,000 new Burundian arrivals are expected in 2016 requiring total inter-agency funding of $21,854,996 in total.
