Dr. Fuchs founded the Real Medicine Foundation in May, 2005 inspired by lessons learned after working for months in the tsunami relief efforts in Sri Lanka. She established a children’s clinic in an area devastated by the tsunami and realized that even though aid for immediate needs often is provided, people’s lives remain shattered long after physical trauma is no longer an issue. Real Medicine Foundation provides humanitarian support to people living in disaster, post-war, and poverty stricken areas. Going into disaster areas, Real Medicine supports the immediate relief efforts and stays for the longer term, maintaining the needed care and helping to rebuild. This includes medical/physical, emotional, educational, social and economic support. Real Medicine forms partnerships with individuals and existing organizations throughout the world, creating effective models and sustainable solutions that can be applied globally. At the present time, Real Medicine has projects in: India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar/Burma, starting in Armenia; Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Uganda, Sudan; Peru, and the US.
