Dear Friends of Real Medicine,

Jane and her precious two daughters have been caught in the crossfire.

Due to post election ethnic violence in Uganda, Jane, infected with AIDS and Tuberculosis, and her daughters Naomi and Lucy, were forced to seek refuge in Uganda. They had to leave life as they knew it behind and lost contact with their husband and father while fleeing Kenya. Support was made available for them at a temporary refugee camp in Uganda, but it was just that – temporary.

The Kenyan refugees were moved to a permanent camp in Northern Uganda this past spring. When Naomi was burning up with a raging Malaria fever no medication was available at the refugee clinic. The following morning 13 year old Naomi died before she could be transported to the hospital in town.

Why your support is so critical: At least 65 children are suffering from severe malnutrition and medications are desperately needed. Our urgent call for action is for food for these children and medical supplies for the clinic.

Imagine walking 2 miles with your child who is gravely ill to a clinic, only to find that there are not sufficient medical supplies or food available. While food and medicine from all other NGO’s has stopped, Real Medicine Foundation continues to provide comprehensive services to those in dire need of support and is the only hope for at least 2,000 refugees and their children.

But we need your help to sustain our efforts.

Since our arrival on April 26th, we:
•  Provided Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Relief
•  Provided 14,578 Treatments
•  Provided food and clothes
•  Enrolled 250 Children in Nursery Schools
•  Enrolled 588 Children in Primary Schools and 117 Children in Secondary Schools
•  Trained 21 qualified Kenyan refugee Health care providers

Losing Naomi is a tragedy. But Jane and her daughter Lucy are still fighting for their lives… you CAN help, you CAN make a "Real" difference in their lives and countless others.

For just $30 per month, that’s $1 per day, Jane and many others like her can count on the medication and food to be there for her and her remaining daughter.

Please help us to put an end to the senseless deaths, trauma and grief for these people. Your contributions, no matter how big or how small can make the difference between life and death in a human’s life.

Thank You, Beth Cole, Country Director Uganda, Real Medicine Foundation

Background:

After the December 2007 Kenyan presidential elections ended in disputed results, ethnic violence erupted across the country. Approximately 1,500 people were killed and over 600,000 people were displaced. Schools, homes, churches and businesses were burnt to the ground. Many Kenyans ran for their lives with only the clothes on their backs. Many of the displaced persons escaped over the border into Uganda.
