
RMF-Google Pakistan Medical Camps Update: More than 4,000 flood victims treated over the weekend

RMF in partnership/collaboration with Google held another two day free medical camp ( The 11th and 12th RMF-Google Medical Camps) for the Flood Victims of Pakistan on this weekend on November 27 and 28, 2010 in the village of Shaikh Kalay, Union Council (UC) Agra, Charsadda District, KPK.
Shaikh Kalayvillage is situated in UC Agra near Charsadda River and has been severely affected. UC Agra was the most affected areas in district Charsadda, where routine life had come to a complete halt. Overall, 2,500 families have been affected in this area and out of these affected families, 1,000 have been shifted to other places and live under the open sky in flood relief camps. The residents are still in dire need of health services, safe drinking water, essential medicines, hygiene kits and other essential items for their sustenance.
The 2 day RMF/Google free medical camp was inaugurated by Mr Habibullah a volunteer from the USA. The patients were mostly women and children and they are provided with free medicines beside free consultation.
A team of volunteers also facilitated the free medical camp.
This camp was also divided into various sections such as the registration Counter, different specialist OPDs, Pharmacy and patients’ waiting halls.

1,773 patients were treated on Saturday, November 27, 2010

2,314 patients were treated on Sunday, November 28, 2010

A total of 4,087 patients were treated in 2 days free medical camp
Of these 4,087 patients,

79% were female
-
21% were male
-
16% were children below the age of 12
On day first 12 medical doctors and on day second 17 doctors from various specialties participated in this camp, the final figures of specialized care made possible are as follows:

603 patients – attended as general medical OPD
-
56 patients – General surgery
-
725 patients – Dermatology
-
279 patients – Ophthalmology
-
267 patients – ENT
-
653 patients – Pediatrics (Children Bellow the age of 12)
-
492 patients – OBs/Gyn
-
82 patients – Orthopedics
-
97 patients – Dentistry and oral hygiene
-
186 patients – Malnutrition specialist
-
234 Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
-
307 patients – Miscellaneous diagnosis (not specifically to categorize according to WHO criteria)
-
106 patients were referred to tertiary hospitals for follow up and advanced care.
The RMF team of doctors will be able to follow these patients at the hospitals where they work.
The response from the community was excellent as always. Local notables, Government officials, politicians and religious leaders also visited the camp and appreciated the great effort of RMF and Google.
We will continue holding these free medical camps as long as our funding permits.
