Clinic Yayawatta

July 14, 2007 - Sri Lanka

The goal of RMF’s Clinic in Yayawatta in southern Sri Lanka is to offer comprehensive treatment to the tsunami victims who have suffered physical, emotional, and economical hardship. Most of the families who have settled down in Yayawatta are refugees made homeless in the wake of the tsunami. The new Real Medicine Clinic at Yayawatta had opened its doors in October 2006 and has been blossoming ever since.

In May 2006, many families from Seenimodara, Kudawella, Mawella, and Moraketiara, who had lived in refugee camps until that time, moved into newly built houses at Yayawatta. Yayawatta is a housing scheme (95 Houses) which was constructed by International Service Partners, an American NGO. The clinic has also gained popularity amongst the neighboring villages of Palapotha and Kadurupokuna due to its close proximity.

At the clinic, patients are seen Tuesday through Thursday and upon request. We also provide house visits. Outreach programs in Maternal and Child Health as well as Hygiene have been initiated. Patients can be referred to the Base Hospital of Tangalle for further medical treatment. Read on…
