Summary
Typhoon Haiyan appears to be the deadliest natural disaster on record for the Philippines. Preliminary estimates are coming in with of 10,000 reported dead and more than 300,000 displaced.Initial reports suggest that Leyte Island was the hardest hit, where officials said there may be as many as 10,000 dead in the capital of Tacloban Haiyan hit the eastern seaboard of the Philippines on Friday with sustained winds between 147 mph and gusts up to 275 kph (170 mph), and a storm surge of 6 meters (20 feet).
