Since the earthquake of 2015, RMF’s efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of Kavre residents have continued to develop. In 2017, RMF received approval of our 5-year Health Care System Strengthening and Outreach Program from Nepal’s Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Welfare (MoWCSW). As a result, RMF was able to fully implement the Kavre Community Outreach Program. Currently, RMF’s priority in the program has shifted to supporting a health clinic at Dapcha Health Post, which was opened in February 2018, as well as RMF Urban Health Center, which was opened in March 2018.

Shortly after the April 2015 earthquake, Real Medicine Foundation (RMF) started its support of Kanti Children’s Hospital by donating more than $400,000 worth of medicines, medical supplies, and laboratory supplies. RMF continues to support a blood bank, lodging, food, transportation, medicines, laboratory services, and other necessities for needy patients and their families. In March 2017, RMF also began supporting human resources at Kanti Children’s Hospital and is now providing the hospital with medical officers who serve in the Surgical ICU and Neonatal ICU, as well as registered nurses who serve in the triage area and Medical ward.

In August of 2017, RMF began construction for a new 4-classroom building at Karuna Girls’ School with a capacity of 200 students. Construction for the building was completed in April of 2018, and the building was officially handed over to the school management in November. This is a step in helping the school to meet its long-term goal of accommodating 500 students.

Currently, RMF’s new focus at Karuna Girls’ School is in supporting the salary of one of the school’s teachers.

Currently, RMF supports two NCO children’s homes in Kathmandu, located at Naxal and Sifal, with 1 nurse and 2 auxiliary nurses. RMF’s nurses provide 24-hour, daily care for the children sheltered in these homes. Nurses provide both preventive and curative health services to all the children as well as staff of NCO. As a result of their continuous presence, they are able to diagnose children more efficiently, leading to earlier diagnosis and treatment. RMF’s nurses are especially committed to providing care for the children with chronic diseases and special needs, as these children are more vulnerable to infections and…

Soon after the earthquake, RMF began providing much-needed emergency health support to the people of Arupokhari, a remote village in Gorkha district. With the long-term vision of establishing, operating, and sustaining quality health services in the region, in January 2016, RMF opened a health clinic in Arupokhari. The health clinic that was previously operating in the region was severely damaged due to the earthquake, and it had since remained closed. Real Medicine Foundation (RMF) Nepal, in collaboration with local governments and NGOs, sponsors free health camps in rural and disaster-affected regions of Nepal. We sponsor 1–4 camps each month, prioritizing communities who remain in temporary housing after the 2015 earthquake or those newly affected by natural disasters.

Free health camps are initiated when RMF is invited to villages by communities in need. Our local partner organizations obtain legal consent from local authorities, then an RMF program team visits the community to analyze the situation and approve a health camp.
