4th Annual Children’s Holiday Party

January 19, 2012

Sarah Stern

This year’s holiday party exceeded all expectations, and was met with a great response from the local community and patients of the Florence Western Medical Clinic. With contributions from a host of supporters, Real Medicine and Florence Western Medical Clinic were able to provide over 60 children with bags of toys for the holiday and 25 families with Ralph’s grocery cards to help with holiday meals.

Two families were called to our attention by the staff at FWMC, one where a foster mother was currently taking care of the needs for 7 children below the age of 15; the other family consisting of 8 children who have repeatedly come to the clinic to receive clothing from our donation room and were in dire need of support.

With a last minute appeal and very generous anonymous donation, we were able to provide each of these families with hundreds of dollars in Target gift cards in addition to toys for all of their children.
This year’s volunteers included a very special group of teenagers from the STEP program which is offered by the Junior Blind of America Association. It was a truly spectacular event to see these teens working hand in hand with the children and we look forward to bridging the gap even further in future events.

This event would not have been possible if it weren’t for the generous contributions from Pacific Health Alliance, Gelson’s Market, Picture Head Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Solutions Healthcare Inc., The Office of Councilman Bernard Parks, The Office of Assemblyman Mike Davis and the many individual donors who helped us to raise over $2,500 for this year’s event.   We would also like to extend a huge thank you to all of our volunteers for their commitment and dedication to the children of South Los Angeles.
