Buwate Hosts Holiday Games

Overall Winners

Buwate Sports Academy organized a number of holiday matches and games for the children, which were conducted at the Kira sports grounds. This event kicked off with vigorous training for children who attend both boarding and day schools, followed by friendly football (American soccer) matches in the categories of under 9, 11, and 13 for friendly football (American soccer). Buwate Sports Academy emerged as the overall winners in all categories.

Supporting Children’s Education

Scholastic Materials Distributed

Scholastic materials were purchased and distributed to children going back to school. This is done each term to support children’s education and add further incentive to attend holiday football (American soccer) trainings. This project is contributing to reducing illiteracy in Uganda. Every year, RMF’s support enables more children to complete their primary or secondary education, and some of our sponsored children have completed their Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE).

Meals Provided

Energy and Morale Increased

Children were provided with hot meals during practice and away games. When the children are well-fed, they have more energy, better morale, and are able to perform better, producing better results.

Food, soft drinks, and charcoal were purchased so that we could provide the children with a meal during training sessions and away games.

Engaging the Community

Home-and-Away Match Hosted

Buwate Sports Academy conducted a home and away match with Excel Soccer Academy in Kyabala, played in the categories of under 9, 11, and 13. We hosted a visiting team from Kikutukwe Soccer Academy which played with the under-17 Buwate children. The game ended with a 1-1 draw for the two teams.

Growing Vocational Program

Students Prepared for Outside Market

The vocational department has successfully trained and prepared its students to compete in the outside market, and with RMF’s support, they have been able to establish small startups. The vocational department contributed a small percentage of income to the students as startup capital and purchased some sewing machines, which enables students who have finished all levels of their training to start up their own business and generate a daily income.

Hope for Girls

Strengthening Opportunity

The tailoring and hairdressing departments have continuously boosted their income levels by making items like ladies’ bags and school uniforms, as well as creating trendy hairstyles for clients. Through the vocational training program, the academy has created hope for girls who had to drop out of school due to lack of funds; now they have an opportunity to acquire employable skills in different areas of interest.
