PVTI Guild President’s Speech

A Commitment to the Community

PVTI’s guild president was full of praise for Real Medicine Foundation and their commitment to “Friends helping Friends helping Friends,” which has enabled many young men and women to study at Panyadoli Vocational Training Institute (PVTI).

With the skills students acquire through PVTI’s skills training program, they are able to earn a living. He extended his thanks on behalf of the students by praying that PVTI would continue to support vulnerable youth in the community so that they can become self-sustaining.

RMF Project Coordinator’s Speech

An Ongoing Impact

RMF Project Coordinator Daniel Wakibi stated that throughout Real Medicine Foundation’s work in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement and in PVTI in particular, many people have come to appreciate that we are empowering people to improve their lives. Panyadoli Vocational Training Institute (PVTI) has seen over 600 students acquire skills and be able to do something for themselves. Many have set up business, and women have been empowered to earn a living on their own.

Settlement Commandant’s Speech

A Lasting Impression

The Settlement Commandant was extremely impressed by the work of a young person who had graduated from PVTI within a period of three months and could now create products that would sell on a competitive market. Given the circumstances, the Settlement Commandant pointed out the importance of their handiwork to graduates in the market who cannot find a job because they lack the essential skills needed in a given field.

He thanked RMF’s team in Kiryandongo for their committed efforts to ensure that peoples’ livelihoods are improved and thanked the organization as a whole for their commitment to bringing services to Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement.

Background

& Objectives

Background

In April 2011, RMF initiated the Panyadoli Vocational Training Institute (PVTI) at the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement after being presented by the refugee community with issues surrounding the lack of skills and vocational training for students graduating from the settlement high school.
After researching which skills would provide the quickest earning opportunities and the most efficient economic investment requirements for RMF, we narrowed the programs down to:

  • Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy
  • Bricklaying and Concrete Practice
  • Carpentry and Joinery
  • Tailoring and Garment Cutting

Objectives

  • To train the refugees with relevant vocational training skills
  • To prepare the refugees for the work world with entrepreneurial skills for both employment and self-employment
  • To prepare refugees with basic skills that they shall use for nation building when returning to their home country
  • To foster a cycle of improved economic stability and opportunity in the region
