Summary of Activities
  • Organized and held 3 monthly meetings for the months of July, August, and September 2016
  • Collected information from the children about their treatment and progress at the monthly meetings
  • Provided traveling expenses and nutritious food packages for the children and their families
  • Gave each of the 4 children a food parcel, worth Rs. 2,199/= each. The food parcels were distributed by Mr. Nishantha Sandakelum and Mrs. Stephney Minerva Fernando for the months of July, August, and September 2016.

Program Challenges Minimized

We provided long-term medical support for these 5 children through monthly meetings, therapy, provision of food parcels, and any additionally required monitoring or treatment during the third quarter of 2016. Monthly meetings with the participating 5 children and their parents have minimized most of the challenges our program had experienced.

Under the supervision of Professor Sujeewa, Senior Consultant of Pediatrics at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle, Sri Lanka, with the assistance of the Medical Consultant of Ward No.1 and Registrar Keshani Gamlath of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, the following services are provided:

  • Issuing medication
  • Safely storing the delivered vials of growth hormone (GH) from Baurs Company
  • Documenting the issued vials and recording the progress of the children’s height and weight by the medical authority at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle, Sri Lanka, under the Supervision of Professor Sujeewa, Senior Consultant Pediatrician of Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.

Madumekala Ubeywarna

JULY 2016

  • Madumekala is a 22-year-old young woman. She came to the meeting with her mother. She received 5 vials of growth hormone (GH) for the month of July, and she visited the clinic twice.
  • An unfortunate incident occurred on May 24th, when an elderly man tried to rape Madumekala. Fortunately, her father arrived just in time before anything had happened. Madumekala was admitted to the Tangalle Base Hospital with some scratch marks and was later transferred to Hambantota Base Hospital for further investigations.
  • The man was taken into custody, where he will remain until June 17th, 2016. All the medical reports, as well as Madumekala’s medication, were given to the police.
  • The case is proceeding. The man was released from prison, and the next date for the case is on October 13th.
  • Madumekala is continuing sex hormone medication: Climen, 1 tablet daily. Her bone age is 11 years. It is below her chronological age. Madumekala was treated by Dr. Manilka Sumanthilaka, a consultant endocrinologist. He again referred Madumekala to Professor Sujeewa for further treatment.
  • As Professor Sujeewa instructed, Madumekala’s growth hormone therapy was increased again from 12 clicks to 14 clicks from January 14th, 2016. She needs 5 vials of growth hormone (GH) for each month.

AUGUST 2016

  • Madumekala is a 22-year-old young woman. She did not come to the meeting, but her father attended. Madumekala received 5 vials of growth hormone (GH) for the month of August, and she visited the clinic twice.
  • Madumekala is continuing sex hormone medication: Climen, 1 tablet daily. Madumekala was treated by Dr. Manilka Sumanthilaka, a consultant endocrinologist. He again referred Madumekala to Professor Sujeewa for further treatment.
  • As Professor Sujeewa instructed, Madumekala’s growth hormone therapy was increased again from 12 clicks to 14 clicks from January 14th, 2016. She needs 5 vials of growth hormone (GH) for each month.

SEPTEMBER 2016

  • Madumekala is a 22-year-old young woman. She came to the meeting a little later with her mother. She received 5 vials of growth hormone (GH) for the month of September, and she visited the clinic in Karapitiya twice.
  • Madumekala is continuing sex hormone medication: Climen, 1 tablet daily. Her bone age is 11 years. It is below her chronological age. Madumekala was treated by Dr. Manilka Sumanthilaka, a consultant endocrinologist. He again referred Madumekala to Professor Sujeewa for further treatment.
  • As Professor Sujeewa instructed, Madumekala’s growth hormone therapy was increased again from 12 clicks to 14 clicks from January 14th, 2016. She needs 5 vials of growth hormone (GH) for each month. Her height is improving now.

Fazeer Ahamed

JULY 2016

  • Fazeer did not attended the monthly meeting in July, and we received no information from him. He did not receive his 4 vials of growth hormone therapy for the month of July.
  • We did not purchase Fazeer’s 4 vials of growth hormone for the month of July 2016, and we instructed the medical authority of Ward No.1 not to issue the vials, as Fazeer must meet with us in Tangalle before going to the clinic in Karapitiya.
  • Fazeer’s dosage is 10 clicks at night, daily. Since he did not attend the monthly meeting, Fazeer was not provided with a food parcel for the month of July.

AUGUST 2016

  • Fazeer did not attended the monthly meeting in August, and we received no information from him. He did not receive his 4 vials of growth hormone therapy for the month of August.
  • We did not purchase Fazeer’s 4 vials of growth hormone for the month of August 2016, and we instructed the medical authority of Ward No.1 not to issue the vials, as Fazeer must meet with us in Tangalle before going to the clinic in Karapitiya.

Madura Madushanka

JULY 2016

  • Madura received 4 vials of growth hormone (GH) for the month of July. He did not check his height during this time period.
  • He had attended school and private classes, and completed the Advanced Level Exam. At the moment, he is taking a computer course too.
  • His mother is very much concerned with his progress, and the medical authorities at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital are very satisfied with her.

AUGUST 2016

  • Madura received only 2 vials of growth hormone for the month of August, because the medical consultant at the clinic in Ward No.1 at Karapitiya would not issue the vials of growth hormone without the patient. However, RMF’s staff and the health authority have a mutual understanding that Madura is unable to come to the clinic, as he has to attend private classes for his Advanced Level Examination.
  • This incident made Madura’s mother very sad and upset. We informed Professor Sujeewa of the situation, and he assured us that it would never happen again.
  • Madura had attended school and private classes, and completed the Advanced Level Exam. At the moment, he is taking a computer course too.

SEPTEMBER 2016

  • Madura received 4 vials of growth hormone for the month of September. The medical consultant at the clinic in Ward No.1 at Karapitiya apologized for the misunderstanding and issued the vials of growth hormone without the patient. RMF’s staff and the health authority have a mutual understanding that Madura is unable to come to the clinic, as he has to attend private classes for his Advanced Level Examination.
  • Madura had attended school and private classes, and completed the Advanced Level Exam. At the moment, he is taking a computer course too.
  • His mother is very much concerned with his progress, and the medical authorities at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital are very satisfied with her.

JULY 2016

  • For the month of July, Gayan did not receive any vials of growth hormone (GH). After observing the progress of Gayan’s height, Professor Sujeewa had instructed to stop therapy for him. Gayan visited the clinic at Karapitiya once to get the Testoviron injection.
  • Gayan had stopped attending school. He is now working as a helper.
  • Gayan’s mother had returned the auto click machine and the remaining needles.

AUGUST 2016

  • For the month of August, Gayan did not receive any vials of growth hormone (GH). After observing the progress of Gayan’s height, Professor Sujeewa had instructed to stop therapy for him. Gayan visited the clinic at Karapitiya once to get the Testoviron injection.

SEPTEMBER 2016

  • For the month of September, Gayan did not receive any vials of growth hormone (GH). After observing the progress of Gayan’s height, Professor Sujeewa had instructed to stop therapy for him. Gayan visited the clinic at Karapitiya once to get the Testoviron injection.

  • Tharindu’s increased medication had to continue. He visited the Karapitiya clinic with his new blood profile in July 2016, and he met with the medical consultant. The new blood profile revealed that Tharindu’s cholesterol levels were lower. After 3 months, he will need to visit the Karapitiya clinic again with a new blood profile.
  • No change in his medication. Senior medical consultant, Dr. Arosha, had instructed Tharindu to do more exercises, such as cycling, to decrease his weight. Tharindu’s weight has decreased by 8 kg. The medical consultant had given Tharindu a diet system, and he must eat what is listed on the chart.
  • Professor Sujeewa Amarasinghe, the senior pediatrician at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle, Sri Lanka, had referred Tharindu to Dr. Arosha.
  • In April, Tharindu visited the clinic with a new blood profile. His weight is 67 kg and his height is 165 cm.
  • Tharindu takes Rosuvastatin (40 mg) and Ezetimibe (10 mg) each night. He also receives a food parcel with more grains and a packet of fat-free milk powder. For his food parcel, we also reduced the quantity of red rice and had added soy protein as instructed by Dr. Arosha.
