Richard Gakwaya

Nursing Officer

Richard is a Nursing Officer working with RMF in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement. He is deployed at the emergency health facility at the Reception Centre to provide first line treatment before giving appropriate referral depending on the magnitude of the illness. Richard holds a diploma in Comprehensive Nursing from Bikko-Muwnaga- Kiboga. He has four years of hands-on experience at both local and international level in general nursing, clinical care, surgical (circumcision) family planning services and clinical skills in HIV/AIDS care. When he completed his training, Richard was employed by Kigezi Health Care Foundations (South Western Uganda) as a nurse where he served for two years before he moved to Population Services International (PSI) Swaziland as a Nursing Officer. While in Swaziland Richard was offered more training in various fields which included: Infectious Disease management, Male Circumcision, Provider Initiated HIV Counseling and Testing among others. When he completed his tenure in Swaziland Richard returned to Uganda and joined RMF. Richard likes expanding his knowledge in the field of medicine and which is why he likes reading medical related literature during his free time. He also loves soccer and closely following international news.
