Novice Mountain Climbers Taking On Kilimanjaro to Benefit International Health Aid

October 3, 2013

Los Angeles, CA – International health and humanitarian relief organization Real Medicine Foundation (RMF) announces the completion of its first Climb for Real™ squad. Climb for Real™ is an effort by a number of private individuals and amateur climbers who will summit Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness of and funding for Real Medicine’s work around the world. Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak, located in Tanzania and standing at 19,341 feet. The climb will take place November 11-20, 2013.

Dr. Garrett Cale Smith, CEO of Nasseo, Inc. and an RMF Advisory Board member, will join Climb for Real™. He says, “RMF is climbing its own mountains, preparing and executing successful healthcare solutions that others didn’t think were possible. With the right strategies and training, anything is possible.”

The climbing team includes RMF Advisory Board members George Clardy and Dr. Garrett Cale Smith, and private individuals Byrom Hess and Ryan Clardy. For Clardy, a 63 year old resident of Ventura County, the climb will be the last item on his “bucket list”. The Climb aims to bring in immediate funding for RMF, which, along with all nonprofits, has been affected by the economic downturn. CEO Dr. Martina Fuchs says RMF is “Wanted in more places than we can afford to be right now.” The organization’s typical patients are children and families in remote and impoverished areas who do not have access to ongoing, reliable healthcare and often die as a result of this lack of access.

With the climb already paid for, 100% of public donations to Climb for Real™ will directly benefit Real Medicine’s humanitarian work. To date, Real Medicine has provided humanitarian relief and development in 18 countries across four continents. Climb for Real™ is actively seeking large corporate sponsors and individual contributions, to ensure the ongoing operation of its healthcare projects around the world.
