Young Heart Patient to Receive Surgery, Uganda

Patricia Biira

August 14, 2017
Alphonse Mwanamwolho

Patricia Biira is a 3-year-old girl from the village of Kitholhu in the Rwenzori Mountains, Uganda. She was born with holes in her heart, which prevented her from growing and developing normally. Before receiving help from Real Medicine Foundation, Patricia’s parents struggled with her illness to the extent of selling their only piece of land, but even that was not enough to access treatment for their daughter at the Uganda Heart Institute. Patricia’s parents became depressed as they watched their child struggle. In 2016, they desperately requested RMF’s support, which was granted. Patricia was enrolled for care at the Uganda...

Visit from Hiccup Circus

January 30, 2015
Alphonse Mwanamwolho

Today, 24th January 2015, Hiccup Circus presented their informative performances that the community had been eagerly awaiting following the posters that we had pinned earlier on at public places in the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement inviting the community for the event. A very special Thank You to RMF’s Cindy Stein Urbanc for introducing RMF to Hiccup Circus and for fundraising herself to make this event possible!

The performances were dramatizing two themes: Encouraging communities to take children for Immunization and HIV/AIDS Prevention. The performances attracted a significant audience of approximately 1,000 people, mostly children and youths (as you see...

Shipment and Donation of Medical Items to Juba Teaching Hospital

January 10, 2015

By Dr. Taban Martin Vitale

Background

South Sudan is still recovering from more than two decades of civil war, which broke out in 1983 and lasted until the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in 2005 between the Khartoum Government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA). Most of the health training institutes and health facilities in South Sudan were destroyed during the war hence worsening the health situation and health indicators in the country. South Sudan finally became an independent and recognized state on July 9, 2011. In December of 2013, the current conflict...

Anemia Can Be Prevented in Bogo City

April 22, 2014
Update from the Main Health Office, Bogo City, Philippines

The Bogo City Health Office has limited funds for the purchase of Ferrous Sulfate tablets.  If there are supplies available, the pregnant women are the top priority, however, the availability of the iron vitamins is not sustained so there are times that those pregnant women have to buy the Ferrous Sulfate tablets on their own. Unfortunately, most of the pregnant women seeking prenatal care in our health centers are not financially capable and most of them stop taking iron vitamins during their pregnancy.

Upon the receipt of the donated bottles of Ferrous Sulfate tablets from RMF and International Relief and...

Dionicess IX: Beer Booze for Charity

December 08, 2011

October 21st 2011, I had the privilege of going undercover as a waitress at the highly publicized and anticipated Dionicess IX, a culinary extravaganza which has been appearing on the LA scene for the past 3 years, with all proceeds benefitting charity.

Gev Kazanchyan,a member of the Real Medicine Advisory Board and creator of these events was introduced to Real Medicine 3 years ago through our Armenian Project Director, Nairy Ghazourian.  This introduction would lead to a series of pairings over the next 3 years benefitting our project in Shinuhayr, Armenia. From Dionicess II (which paired Coffee & Chocolate)...

RMF Florence Western Medical Center Los Angeles Community Outreach

Back to School in South L.A.

August 23, 2011
By Sarah Stern

This past weekend, Real Medicine Foundation & the Florence Western Medical Center hosted their first “Back to School” Event, providing more than 60 children and families with brand new backpacks filled with school supplies.

Recognizing the needs of this community has not been the challenge; the challenge has been how to encourage the community to show up for the services available to them. Free health and fitness programs for adults and children are offered at the center by Real Medicine, yet often we find a low attendance due to lack of access to information, transportation and health issues. While we...

Last 3 days to give!

December 29, 2010

If you were considering donating to a worthy cause in 2010 and taking advantage of the tax benefits of charitable donations, now is your last chance to contribute!

As we look towards new efforts and projects in 2011 it is only through your generous funding that we will be able to continue our long term development projects in some of the poorest areas on this planet.

As you know, we have set the goal of raising $100,000 by December 31st, and would greatly appreciate if you consider Real Medicine for your year-end donation.

In the spirit of Real Medicine Foundation’s concept...
